Enjoy breakfast at hotel. After breakfast, your expert local guide will meet the group at your hotel in Reykjavík at 9:00 am. We begin our scenic drive northwards, passing through the Hvalfjörður Tunnel to the charming village of Borgarnes before continuing to Skagafjörður Fjord, an area renowned as the heartland of the Icelandic horse – the only region in Iceland where horses outnumber people. Along the way, we visit Glaumbær Museum, a traditional turf farmhouse that offers a fascinating glimpse into Iceland’s rural history and heritage. Our journey then takes us over the dramatic highland plateau of Öxnadalsheiði, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, before arriving in Akureyri, often referred to as the capital of North Iceland. In the evening, you may choose to unwind with an optional visit to the Forest Lagoon, a geothermal spa set in a tranquil forest environment (available at an additional cost). Overnight stay in Akureyri
| Egilsstaðir
Enjoy breakfast at hotel. Today, we explore the fascinating volcanic landscapes around Lake Mývatn, a shallow lake renowned for its rich birdlife and geothermal activity. Departing Akureyri, we first stop at Goðafoss, the legendary Waterfall of the Gods, known for its beauty and historic significance. Our journey continues to the striking Dimmuborgir lava formations, often referred to as the Dark Castles, followed by a stroll among the pseudocraters of Skútustaðagígar, unique remnants of ancient volcanic eruptions. We visit Grjótagjá, a small lava cave with a naturally heated thermal spring inside, before heading to the steaming geothermal fields of Námaskarð, where bubbling mud pools and fumaroles create a dramatic, otherworldly scene. En route to East Iceland, we stop at the mighty Dettifoss Waterfall, considered one of Europe’s most powerful waterfalls, before crossing the remote Möðrudalsöræfi highland desert and continuing through Jökuldalur Valley to Egilsstaðir, where we spend the night
| Hofn
Enjoy breakfast at hotel. From Egilsstaðir, we embark on a stunning drive through the East Fjords, a region of narrow fjords, steep mountainsides, and picturesque fishing villages untouched by mass tourism. This part of Iceland is known for its sparkling lakes, traditional farms, and as the only region where wild reindeer roam freely after being introduced centuries ago. In summer, this area often enjoys the sunniest weather in Iceland, while in winter, it is cloaked in a mystical fog, adding to its charm.
In the afternoon, there is an optional Glacier Jeep Adventure (additional cost) on Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. This 3–4-hour experience takes you up the glacier in a specially modified super jeep, where you can walk on the snow, take in sweeping mountain views, and feel the thrill of Iceland’s icy wilderness. (The tour requires a minimum of four participants to operate.) Overnight stay in a hotel in Höfn, a small fishing town famed for its lobster and scenic harbour
| Selfoss Area
Enjoy breakfast at hotel. Today’s adventure takes us along Iceland’s breathtaking southeast coastline. We begin with a visit to the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where we join an amphibian boat tour among floating icebergs calving from Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. Nearby, the famous Diamond Beach glistens with washed-up icebergs scattered across black volcanic sand, creating an unforgettable photo opportunity. We continue through Vatnajökull National Park, passing Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland’s highest peak (2,119m), before travelling over the vast lava fields of Eldhraun and the black glacial plains of Mýrdalssandur. In the charming village of Vík, we visit the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, known for its striking basalt columns, puffin colonies (in summer), and powerful Atlantic waves. From here, you can admire the sea arch of Dyrhólaey, where the ocean has carved a dramatic hole through the rock. Our final stops of the day include two of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls: Skógafoss, a powerful curtain of water dropping 60 metres, and Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the cascading falls for a unique perspective (waterproof clothing recommended). Overnight stay in the Selfoss area
| Reykjavik
We dedicate the day to exploring Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route – the Golden Circle. First, we visit Gullfoss, a majestic two-tiered waterfall that roars into a rugged canyon, followed by the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to bubbling hot springs and Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes. Next, we arrive at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart, creating a dramatic rift valley. This is also the historic site of the Alþingi Parliament, established in 930 AD, making it one of the world’s oldest legislative assemblies. From Þingvellir, we return to Reykjavík for our final night. In the afternoon, guests may choose an optional excursion to the Blue Lagoon (extra cost). This package includes a return transfer, entrance, a rejuvenating Silica Mud Mask, use of a towel, and one complimentary drink, offering the perfect way to relax after an incredible week of exploring Iceland.
